We revamped BCIE’s loan application process through a modernized conditionality module. The improvements addressed cross-team collaboration challenges, efficient file management, and user experience redesign.

The Client

Banco Centroamericano de Integración Económica (BCIE) plays a crucial role in Central America's integration and development.

Headquartered in Tegucigalpa (Honduras), the multilateral financial institution promotes the integration and balanced economic and social development of its member countries. 

The Challenge

BCIE sought a technology partner to develop and enhance its Digital Services Platform.  This platform is a critical tool for BCIE's Executive Units (countries) and internal staff, facilitating efficient operations and service delivery. 

The initial project focused on enhancing the loan application processing through a streamlined conditionality module that involved a complex set of requirements:

  • Collaborative Development: Efficient code management and inter-team communication was crucial.
  • Large & Secure File Upload: Storage, data transfer, and resource management.
  • User Experience (UX) Redesign: Enhance user experience and software usability.
  • Core Services Integration: Seamless integration with existing systems for a smooth workflow.
  • Security and Compliance: Safeguard sensitive data and meet regulatory requirements.
The Solution

After an Inception phase during which we thoroughly explored the idea, gathering requirements and expectations, assessing and identifying possible risks, and estimating the system development cost, our team thrives on quickly grasping the heart of the project. 

We implemented Single SPA to empower seamless collaboration among development teams, while robust file management systems ensured efficient handling of large files. 

Recognizing the client's critical non-functional requirement for handling large files, we developed a module that facilitates uploading such files efficiently,  using a chunked upload process. This process effectively divides the file into smaller blocks, uploading each individually before assembling them on the server. This system allows for secure and efficient upload and management of large files.

A user-centered redesign transformed the user experience, and meticulous integration with BCIE's core services guaranteed a smooth user journey. 

Finally, advanced security measures and comprehensive activity monitoring ensured data protection and regulatory compliance.
